About The Prevention Desk

The Prevention Desk is an independent English-language magazine about infection prevention in shops, workplaces and public spaces. It is not a government body, a trade association or a certification scheme, and it does not sell anything. It reads public sources, checks them and turns them into plain guidance for people who run or work in everyday premises.

What we cover

The magazine covers three broad areas. The first is infection control in premises: written plans for small businesses, rules and signage for customers, and fair policies for staff sickness and return to work. The second is air, cleaning and hygiene: ventilation in small spaces, cleaning high-touch surfaces and hand hygiene in public settings. The third is preparedness and policy: outbreak checklists, how certification schemes work, what small businesses learned from COVID-19 and how to keep useful records.

How the guides are written

Each guide starts from named public sources, such as the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and national health and safety bodies. Where a claim cannot be stated with confidence, the guide says what is known and leaves the rest open. Nothing here is a substitute for local rules or professional advice, and the guides say so where it matters.

Who writes it

The site is edited by The Prevention Desk editorial team. It is a small editorial project rather than the voice of an institution. Where a topic touches on an organisation, that organisation is described in the third person; the site never presents itself as anyone else and never argues against anyone.

If you find an error or an out-of-date detail, please use the contact page to tell us. We check reported issues against the original source and correct the guide where needed. Suggestions for better sources are welcome too.
